### Oahu Electric Rates & TOU Structure Electric rates on Oahu have been increasing. The standard residential rate is about 36 cents per kWh as of Dec 2024. Hawaiian Electric's new Time-of-Use (TOU) rate structure varies by time: - Off-Peak (10 p.m. – 9 a.m.): 38.7 cents/kWh - Mid-Day (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.): 26.5 cents/kWh - On-Peak (5 p.m. – 10 p.m.): 46.3 cents/kWh ### Why Rates Are Rising Rising fuel costs, infrastructure investments and the transition to renewable energy sources are driving rates higher. In August 2022 Hawaiian Electric warned customers about a 7% hike. To manage costs, shift usage to off-peak times, choose energy-efficient appliances and explore renewable options like solar. ### Three Technologies to Lower Your Bill **Solar Hot Water Heater System** - Water Heating Efficiency: Uses the sun to heat water, reducing electricity usage. - Minimal Electricity Usage: Only a small pump and controller draw power, which can be supplied by a PV system. - Year-Round Savings: Oahu’s abundant sunlight provides hot water throughout the year. **Split Air HVAC System** - Energy Efficiency: Inverter-based systems adjust compressor speed to optimize energy. - Zone Cooling: Cool only occupied rooms to avoid wasted energy. - Solar-Powered Operation: PV panels can power your AC during the day. **Photovoltaic (PV) System** - Offset Electricity Use: Generates renewable electricity for your home’s needs. - Battery Integration: Store excess energy for use at night, reducing reliance on grid power. ### Putting It All Together Combining solar hot water, efficient split-air HVAC and a PV system reduces energy consumption during peak periods. Use daytime solar power to run your AC and heat water, and shift remaining loads to off-peak hours. Together these technologies lower overall demand and significantly cut your electric bill. ### Ready to Save?
